Boatshop24: Hi Richard, Tell us a bit about Inwards Marine and how it came about?
Answer: Inwards is a family business established over 10 years ago specialising in the sale and service of new and pre-owned motor yachts and moorings. Our dedicated team provide an honest, professional, comprehensive and first class service assisting our customers with all aspects of the sale and purchase process and ownership.
Boatshop24: You are based in one of the most stunning locations in the UK, but how much space do you have there for boats?
Answer: As well as over 200 approved listings in the UK & overseas the Inwards Display Site is the largest independent brokerage site on the South Coast with capacity for over 60 motor yachts. Situated in the premier location of Hamble Point Marina, presentation is of fundamental importance to us. Our on site owners also receive a number of benefits over and above our standard service, such as free storage for MDL berth holders and an approved Customs Warehousing Scheme for ex tax boats.
Boatshop24: What’s your position within the company?
Answer: Managing Director
Boatshop24: How did you actually become involved in the marine industry?
Answer: Apart from having been brought up with boats, I have also been lucky enough to experience different aspects of the industry including crewing

aboard the 65m 3 masted C&N classic ‘Creole’ and being involved with Vendee Globe and Americas Cup campaigns.
Boatshop24: You sell a huge variety of boats, is it predominantly power?
Answer: Yes, at present we specialise in motor yachts and moorings, however I do not think it will be long before we launch a sailing yacht division.
Boatshop24: You have an amazing range of new boat agencies tell us what they are?
Answer: Our new boat division is proud to represent many of the world’s leading shipyards including Riva, Pershing, Ferretti, Custom Line, Mochi Craft, Itama, Bladerunner and Pearl Motor Yachts. We therefore offer our clients an unrivalled selection of over 55 new boat models ranging from 30 to 130ft backed by a worldwide support and service network which is second to none.
Boatshop24: I have heard that Inwards has ventured into the European market.
Answer: As a high percentage of our owners and clients base their boats in the Mediterranean we have also established offices in Monaco and Genoa.
Boatshop24: Can you offer any moorings either in the Hamble or abroad?

Answer : We exhibit at the London, Cannes, Southampton, Monaco, Genoa & Barcelona Boat Shows as well as host a number of special events.
Boatshop24: It’s been a very tough year for the marine industry as a whole how has it been for Inwards Marine?
Answer: Simple. “When written in Chinese, the word “crisis” is composed of two characters. One represents danger and the other represents opportunity” John F Kennedy. All I try to do is be aware of the former but stay focused on the latter!
Boatshop24: What sets Inwards Marine apart from your competitors?
Answer:

Our ‘no stock’ policy ensures that from a seller’s point of view his/her boat receives our undivided attention, whilst from the buyer’s perspective we focus and listen to their requirements and not on what we want them to buy.
Professionalism.
As members of ABYA, of which I am Vice Chairman, and the BMF our staff undergo the latest industry training and uphold the industry code of practice.
Personal Service.
I am always conscious that buying a boat is a significant purchase. Each and every customer has their own particular requirements, which is why our business and reputation is built on our personal service.

Boatshop24: Run us through a typical day for you?
Answer: Apart from starting at 7am and leaving at 7pm, no day is ever the same which I enjoy, although I tend to spend the mornings focusing on sales and the afternoons on building the business which I love.
Boatshop24: What do you do to you relax in your spare time?
Answer: I enjoy spending time with my family, being an active member of my local parish and investing in property, although there is a part of my work brain which doesn’t seem to have an “off” switch!
Boatshop24: And finally what do you see in the future for Inwards Marine?
Answer: I am confident and excited as we start the New Year. Whilst we remain focused on our core business we are constantly striving to ensure we adapt and take advantage of opportunities that arise.
